1) Tell us about your background and how/why you started the company.
My entrepreneurial journey has always been driven by a desire to make a difference. After studying business in the US, I returned to Brazil to care for my father, who was experiencing health issues. This experience sparked a realization about the challenges in accessing quality healthcare, and I was inspired to work in this field. I co-founded Brazil’s first post-acute care network, which today has 12 units, and then launched a primary care network, demonstrating my commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and quality. Through these ventures, I gained invaluable experience building and scaling businesses in the healthcare sector, but I also identified the need for a more innovative approach to health insurance. That’s why I co-founded Sami, a digital-first health insurance company, alongside Vitor. We saw a massive opportunity to leverage technology to create a more accessible, affordable, and personalized healthcare experience. Sami’s mission is to empower individuals with greater control over their health journey, providing them with comprehensive digital tools, telehealth access, and a seamless user experience. We’re committed to disrupting the traditional insurance model and building a more equitable and efficient healthcare system for all Brazilians.
