1) Tell us about your background and how Assort Health was started?
The journey to founding Assort Health was driven by a deep belief in the transformative power of AI in healthcare to make healthcare accessible anytime, anywhere, and for everyone. My co-founder, Jeffery Liu, and I are committed to improving patient care and reducing the administrative burden on healthcare professionals. My background, from medical studies at UCSF to pioneering AI research at Stanford, coupled with leadership roles in mental health platforms, exposed me to the critical need for innovation in healthcare processes. Jeff’s experiences, from early hospital volunteer work to his significant contributions at Athelas/Commure, underscore the potential of AI in enhancing patient and physician workflows. Together, we recognized an opportunity to leverage our unique blend of medical, technical, and leadership expertise to create voice AI technologies that address these challenges head-on. Assort Health was born from our shared vision to make healthcare more efficient, effective, and accessible for all.
2) What are the key problems Assort Health is addressing?
Assort Health is tackling the significant challenges of long hold times and inefficient patient service in healthcare call centers. By deploying the first generative AI solution tailored for this setting, Assort Health aims to enhance patient access to physicians, support overwhelmed medical front desk workers, and eliminate the frustration of long phone holds. This technology leverages AI and natural language processing to comprehend caller intent and seamlessly integrates with electronic health records to autonomously resolve patient inquiries. For healthcare providers, such as the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute’s Chicago Division, Assort Health’s solution has drastically reduced call abandonment rates and hold times, while also cutting down on call center operational costs.
